I Want This Today!

This has to be one of the coolest, and most pointless things ever.  Available at Thinkgeek.com, this t-shirt tells you when you’re in range of a wi-fi hotspot, and how strong the signal is.  Great idea and very cool, right?

Bzzzt!

Sure, it’s very cool.  But think about when you use wi-if.   I mean, it’s usually when you’re looking for a way to get online, right?  So picture yourself walking down the street.  You’ve got a burning desire to get on the internet, and you are carrying your laptop around so you can find that spot where you can magically freeze in place and get online.

Let me be clear- if you need to get online that badly, you need professional help.  By the way, you’ve got a pretty good chance of finding a signal at pretty much any coffeeshop, and even a lot of fast food restaurants.  And if you can’t find a McDonald’s or a Starbucks, you should probably give up on trying to find wi-fi.

Now, if you’re going to buy this shirt just because it’s cool, feel free.  I’m not worried about the people who find geek-chic awesome.  I’m worried about those who want it because they think it will be useful.
